What Happened On July 21st?
On July 21st, 1919 The WIng foot Express was on it's first flight throughout the loop of Chicago. Meanwhile on it's route through Chicago holding passengers from Grant park and White City Amusement Park on that busy monday. As the blimp took it's past toward the downtown area, suddenly where the blimp had caught fire. The blimp had burst into flames from the gas tanks, taking its downfall right on top of the bank. Where that day there were 150 clerks and book keepers working that day, closing up after a long day. suddenly to see that there were two burning engines colliding with the ceiling made of glass. one of the switch board keepers,Harriet Messinger, said. "There was a shadow, and I looked up to the roof". Right as she was inside of the bank she witnessed the horrible fall of the Wingfoot Express. Then and there the Wingfoot Express caused mass destruction wslowing killing 12 and injuing 27.
Where The Event Took Place
This event took place right in the loop of Downdown Chicago on Monday July 2st, 1919 around 4:30 PM. Where the Wingfoot express took its fall on the Illinois Trust And Savings Bank in downtown Chicago.
By the next day Tuesday July 22nd, 1919 The New york times came out with a paper explaining the event...
Who Where The People Incharge Of The Wingfoot Express?
The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, the first to create a blimp (The Wingfoot Express) to the growing avation industry. There were fourteen men responsible of the Wingfoot express when the blimp when being built. Thus the Pilot, Jack Boetter was responsible for the blimp being flown thought the downtown area. And the project director W.C. Young who took charge of the Wingfoot Express and its production.
Aftermath of the Crash
After the tragic event, everyone who was held accountable after the tragic event had association with the wingfoot Express. So by tuesday July 22nd, 1919, W.C. Young and Jack Boetter and fourteen employees "had been held and interrogated" (City Of Scoundrels (118). Later then released, still leaving Boetter and Young behind for further Questioning. From all the people killed and injured in the death " The Toll from the crash had now reached twelve by Tuesday.
